The band was founded in 1986 to provide a musical outlet for high school and college musicians in non-music careers to continue playing their instruments simply for the love of music and especially Big Band Jazz. Since those humble beginnings, the group has attracted top-level amateur and professional musicians resulting in outstanding musical quality over a broad and varied repertoire, without sacrificing our passion for playing and performing this great music! Our range of musical styles is suitable for a variety of events (see song list for titles and audio samples): Straight-Ahead: High energy, big-brass sound suitable for concert/club venues or events where the band is the primary entertainment. Jazz Standards: Traditional and popular selections from the Swing Era suitable for weddings, parties and other events where the band is background with some dancing. Dance: Swing and Latin selections for ballroom dancing enthusiasts. We have performed at countless weddings, private parties, corporate functions and clubs over that past 23 years, including the Wichita Jazz Festival, the Richardson Wildflower Festival, and the Toyland Ball and the Dance With Me dance studio in Plano. In 2004, we were honored to be selected as the musical entertainment for NTSU Jazz Department founder Leon Breeden’s 80th Birthday Party held at Sammons Hall in Dallas. Approximately half of our members are music educators at the grade school, high school or university level, so in addition to performing great Jazz by night, our members are passing along their love for music to the next generation by day. Other members are also highly accomplished musicians who play in Church Orchestras, Community bands and other musical outlets. |
